ABOUT MISKOLC CITY
There were people living in the stone age in the north-eastern part of
Hungary among the mountains. Miskolc as important centre for commerce
and trade played great role and around the late 18th century a
metallurgical work was founded. The region was developing and became
the largest industrial zone of the country having metallurgical
industry, machine industry, cement mills, textile mills, coal mines,
two chemical factories and before the World War II the city wanted a
Technical University and this requirement met the Act of 1949. Since
the new democratic regime was born in 1990 there has been big change
in manufacturing fields. Engineering value added products were needed
and large-scale international enterprises settled down like Robert
Bosch, National Instruments and many other Medium-size companies. The
city has beautiful surroundings in the mountainous area with
waterfalls, lake, resort places with cave swimming pool,
archeologically relics like Diósgyőr Castle, cultural sights like
Museum, Greek Orthodox Church, National Theatre. 200,000 inhabitants
provide the third largest city rank in the country and counting 15,000
UM students and 10,000 secondary school pupils of Miskolc is
recognised as a School and University city.
